Readout electrode assembly for measuring biological impedance

    Get PDF
The invention comprises of a pair of readout ring electrodes which are used in conjunction with apparatus for measuring the electrical impedance between different points in the body of a living animal to determine the amount of blood flow therebetween. The readout electrodes have independently adjustable diameters to permit attachment around different parts of the body between which it is desired to measure electric impedance. The axial spacing between the electrodes is adjusted by a pair of rods which have a first pair of ends fixedly attached to one electrode and a second pair of ends slidably attached to the other electrode. Indicia are provided on the outer surface of the ring electrodes and on the surface of the rods to permit measurement of the circumference and spacing between the ring electrodes

Finger recording electrode system for electrical impedance plethysmograph

    Get PDF
System facilitates location of recording electrodes of impedance plethysmograph that is used for measuring flow of blood in finger segment; electrodes can be relocated accurately and volume of finger segment under study can be determined precisely. System minimizes movement artifacts in plethysmograph trace because finger segment is held firmly

    Witness

Witness, co-written by award-winning Tanzanian-Australian filmmaker Martin Mhando and WA actor and writer David Moody, explores the law of probability as it plays out in bitter human conflicts, retelling stories of torture and atrocities from Chile to Cambodia in a constantly morphing, fractured form. As the play progresses, the men perform a collage of vignettes in which the roles of white, black, male, female, jailer, prisoner, aggressor and victim are endlessly exchanged. At one point Moody dons a curly black wig to play a comical Colonel Gaddafi; elsewhere both men perform a disturbing Auschwitz cabaret scene as “Hymie and Abe,” complete with Marx Brothers nose-and-glasse

    Going East

The play is a creative work of post-colonial mapping- in this case, dealing with Perth as a post-colonial concept, as a fringe of the eastern “centre” of the Australian map. The play is informed by a whole body of post-colonial research: including in particular Anderson’s notion of the nation as an “imagined community”; Bhabha’s notion of “narration” as a way a nation is formed; and the notion of place and space in post-colonial cultural geography. It is also informed by the writing of Tim Winton on W.A. as a place of “marginalized” culture and Mudrooroo’s polemical position of Perth as a displaced “second-rate” suburb of Perth

History of the North Cascades Smokejumper Base

    Get PDF
This book provides a brief history of the North Cascades Smokejumper Base, from the origins of smokejumping in the United States to 2002. The initial experiments to test the feasibility of smokejumping in the United States were conducted at the North Cascades base. This history focuses on the development of smokejumping in the United States, providing descriptions of notable events and milestones, as well as individuals important to the history of smokejumping. The book also includes a timeline that extends to 2001, an update to the first edition, and a North Cascades Smokejumper Base roster from 1940-2002.https://dc.ewu.edu/smokejumping_pubs/1003/thumbnail.jp

The Hybrid Model of Trust and Distrust:Extending the Nomological Network

    Get PDF
Previous research has highlighted the importance of trust in enabling the purchase of goods/services through the Internet. However, other researchers have theorized and shown that distrust, a distinct construct that is related to trust, should also be considered when studying trust (Duestch 1960, Luhman 1979, Gurtman 1992, Sitkin & Roth 1993, Lewicki et al. 1998). Because trust has been cited to be critical for e-commerce, it stands to reason that its related, yet negative counterpart, distrust should be at least as important and potentially more critical in some contexts. It is important to determine what antecedent conditions may increase the amount of distrust felt by the individual, and how these conditions can be mitigated. This dissertation proposes an experiment to test two research questions. First, this study explores novel antecedents of distrusting beliefs that go beyond the disposition to distrust, which has been the main focus of distrust research in IS. Second, building on the ambivalence work by Cacioppo & Berntson (1994) and Priester & Petty (1996), this study proposes that as a negative attitude towards action, distrust may interact and negate intentions when the buyer also feels similar levels of trust, as a positive attitude. Finally, the research methodology and analysis are outlined along with potential contributions for this study

Covid-19 Impacts on Electronic Resource Usage at a Regional University

    Get PDF
An analysis of electronic resource usage at a regional university in the southeast during the COVID-19 pandemic showed interesting results. While it was anticipated that movement to online instruction would increase usage of electronic resources, it was discovered that overall usage actually declined for those resources. Virtual reference transactions, however, increased during the pandemic. When meas-uring downloads of full-text of both journals and e-Books in the health sciences, humanities, social sci-ences, and physical sciences, it was discovered that the first three subject areas showed a double digit percentage decline in use, with only the physical sciences showing a decline of less than ten percent
